Focus on one thing at a time. Get through school first, find a good job and then build the car.
As someone who tried to build a car while working and going to school, it took longer to do than if I had just done one thing at a time. Sure it got done, but it would have been such a better build for the money had I just waited. Also, planning helps. Don't change up your goal every week (with the car), you'll end up buying/installing parts that don't work well together. Another advantage of a good plan is you can keep an eye out for good deals on the parts you know you need.
