its a version of the front axle in an f-350, most definately too much for a mustang. it will also need to be shortened, unless its already for a car. i just got a 9" rear end for 100$. so there are other alternatives for relatively cheap.
good luck

Has anyone heard of a Dana(sp?) rear end? are these good rear-ends? some dude told me that he bought a dana rear end for $2500, and im like whoa thats a lot of money for a rear end, i believe it is for an SVO.. would this part work on my 86 GT?

a ford 9" is the best rearend period......any rearend will work...how much custom cutting and welding of the driveshaft and axle tubes are you looking to do?
is this for a renegade or outlaw car?

like vfast said, theres a dana, but we dont speak the word that it relates to in here.
You mean Mopar or look under a new Lightning, they had a Dana in them. Hemi 4 speed cars came with a Dana 60 as well. Basicly it is on monster brute of a rear end, they are heavy and use alot of power but if you are amking insane torque they will hold up.

its just a 'street' car.. as far as legality goes who knows, i dont care about that but its a car that i drive around on the street, but not necessarily as a daily driver.. it makes a pretty good amount of power, the rear-end is prob over-kill, but its $250 for a complete assembly, i mean thats a damn good price, i just want to know how much fabrication its gunna take to put it in there, if its a lot of work then i dont want to bother, but if its not too bad then i want it

If it came out of another stang then it will be no big deal, if not go find an 8.8 that came from a stang, they go for $150-200 around mean, and thats with a posi.

if he has a 86 gt it has a 8.8 under it. if your wanting to up grade 250 for a bolt in rear is a good deal. Ford and Chevrolet used dana's in a few diffent cars full size broncos had dana 44 fronts vets have a dana (maybe 60 not sure) and of course vipers have a dana.

Vettes have been IRS for decades, I think the Viper is IRS as well.

i would pass on it......if your worried about the strength of it now...then do 31 spline axles on your 8.8 and the c-clip eliminators.

if your not worried ( it takes an 11 sec car doing 5k launches on full slicks) then wait til it breaks then do whatever.

even cheater slicks on 3500-4k launch will hold up on stock axle shafts in a 12 second-ish car

when i was talking outlaw and renegade, i was referring to the nmra class where the guys run 9's on 10" tires , not street racing

personally i'd save the $250 for another set of tires....you KNOW your gonna need them sooner or sooner
