Moved from KY (no emissions tests) to CA (need I say more) and can't for the life of me pass the smog out here. I pass the visual and computer tests, but fail the sniff.

I have an 07 Stang GT, with carb legal JBA shorties and legal ford racing cold air. Had a dyno tune done back in KY so I rolled that back to stock and checked the cats and both of them are still on there. It still blows out a strong smelling exhaust so I know it won't pass, what else can I do?

 

The techs doing the emissions test don’t smell the exhaust with their nose. They measure it with a probe to see the air to fuel mix coming out the pipe. Your nose is not that accurate. Most testing shops will test your car and if it fails they will let you retest it for free after you fix it. So just take it in, see whats wrong and fix it. Good luck...
