Default Problem with 03 GT Fuel? issue

Hi fellow stangers.

My 03 GT has been getting problems on fuel throttle recently and today its like it escalated big time.

The issue is that when i give it full throttle the engine tends to lag, like its not burning right. If i start for example in 2 gear giving it the heavy foot it starts to lag like its misfiring and then for a millisecond full power then again lag.

It also happens when i am at for a say the second gear at 1500-2000 rpm and give it a normal throttle it starts lagging and shaking like you would have tried to take off from a green light in 5th gear.

If the throttle is given by an old lady with 7 cats on a 2000+rpm the firing is alright.

So can it be the spark plugs or the coils? Maybe a fuel injector?
The air filter is good, it does not go rough on idle or burn excessive fuel, nor lag at normal use so that should eliminate exhaust and MAF sensor. Since this happens at both low throttle in low gear and high throttle in high gear we can eliminate the fuel pump also i would guess.

ANY comments can help, so what do you think it can be?

First thing I would do is have it scanned for codes, even if the mil isn't lit all the time.

A lot of times with the obdii cars the pcm will set a dtc and light the mill for a second or 2 as the fault occurs. It will store that code and it will remain in the history until it is erased.

If no codes are present , you can go on to check the fuel pressure . It is best if you can hook up a fuel pressure gauge and get a real time reading as you drive it. Watch what the fp does as it starts to bog out or miss.

If you can find someone with a scanner that is capable of recording real time data of all the electronics as its driven that would be even better. The scanner that they use at auto zone is basically just a fancy code reader, but a good scanner can monitor every aspect of the car and tell you what the computer is doing for corrective measures. Hell the one I used on some cars could roll down windows lock and unlock doors turn the alarm on or off and even turn individual fuel injectors and spark plugs on or off.

THX for the help!!

This weekend is an annual travel weekend for most here, and therefor i couldnt reach a fuel filter at any auto parts shop. But now i am thankful for that! Cause:

I was driving today after having filled up the tank with 98 octane fuel (we use 95oct on a daily basis) and poured a gasoline system cleaner with it. Took it for a drive out of town to get the new fuel rushed its way.

In the middle of the way i got stuck behind tourists who were driving badly slow so the pedal went to the metal and i left them behind quickly with a smile on my face, i didnt feel the hesitation in the motor at his point and went driving on.

Some miles later i stopped, turned the vehicle around and took off slowly in 1st, then shifted into second and at the time when i was going to shift into third a loud bang came! and of course karma kicked in and the tourists came driving by hearing my stang was making a mine explosions sound. I stopped checked the hood, saw nothing. So i started the engine again and after a few seconds i concluded this to be a exhaust headers gasket. I managed to drive it 10 miles back to town with no problems except for a really loud firing sounds and a "Service Engine Soon" light on, the gauges were fine but the engine lost power. Still driveable though. I will take it into an workshop on tuesday and update this thread as the problem causes and fixes are known.

Again thx for the help!

****UPDATE****

The problem has been identified and is now being repaired. The issue was that a former owner/repair man had changed the spark plugs sometime in the past, and over tightened the spark plug over cylinder 3 and therefor damaging the threads. So the spark plug got loose and finally went up with its threads, stopping on the coil plug and damaging that also.

So know the spark plug hole will be overdrilled, made new threads and put a "false thread" on a new spark plug and screwed in.
