If you want to be competitive around town go with a 94 - 95 GT (5.0s). The early 4.6s did not have as much power. As for tranny both can be competitive the 5spd is great right out of the box and is more fun but can be a real pain in traffic and day to day driving. The auto is great for consistant times but needs a good shift kit and stall coverter to keep up with the 5 spds. However to be competitive against Camaros / other Stangs your going to need a few other mods, stock you dont stand a chance. Those years are heavy cars. As for racing rice my ladies V6 takes out most of them stock.

PS My car is an auto 5.0

like '03 said, you won't miss a shift in a aod , but it's at the risk of running 1 full second slower in the 1/4 mile.

i've had 2 aod cars and 3 5-speeds, and 1 aod was wide geared, so it was just like an aode geared car w/ 2220 stall too. on cheaters and 3.73's it still only went 14.40's

my slowest 5-speed w/ no gears and street tires went 14.60's.....gears and tires = 13.60

well let me tell ya..an auto.. is much easier on the drivetrain.....with a trans-go shift kit and beefed up servo and a nice 2500 stall and a 4.10 gears your there with them and can play with your hunnies' leg while driving instead on those 5 sp guys with a hand on the wheel and 1 on thier stick so ask yourself hand on your girl's thing or your stick

Nice point vfast! If you drive in alot of traffic when not racing, I would say an auto. Otherwise the 5-speed is pretty fun to drive.

64 fairlane with a bench seat you can to more than play with your hunnies leg. and not get leg cramps doing it.
