Buying used gears, have some questions
So I have found a used set of 3.73 gears locally for $20. Im going to go look at them this weekend. What are some things to look for when buying used gears. also what is the ID of the ring gear supposed to be for the 8.8 and how many teeth on ring and pinion.
Any advice is greatly appericated.

Can't help with the ID or tooth count but as for what to look for on the gears themselves.
The teeth should not have any nicks or grooves. Overall the surfaces should be evenly worn.
Personally I'm very leery of buying used gears just because their wear pattern is what makes or breaks their usability. If the wear pattern is messed up, they could be installed near perfect and whine bad still.

I would not buy used gears. Most of the time, it is almost impossible to get them installed with no whine because the wear pattern must be a match. For the time and effort of installation and setup, I would rather do new ones and know they will be right.
well considering how loud the bearing growl comming from my rearend is, and my very limited budget right now im willing to chance a little but of gear whine. I will be back in it to put new clutches in about four months so if its to bad I can change out for new gears then.
I still wouldnt get used gears put in. you can get a FRPP set for around 200 dollars with all parts needed. I bought a set of FRPP's for $150 new out of classified ads
the cost to install the gears is worth buying new ones to install
