Clutch is shot

Clutch is shot
Well, my OEM clutch went out this morning. Downshifted into second coming up to a stop light, and bam! I hear this 'wizzing' / 'spinning' type sound! (Didn't even downshift at a high RPM either)! Now, from a stop, it's hard as Hell to get the gearshift in gear, and the clutch pedal doesn't engage until it's pretty much all the way out! My 'Stang is a 2000 GT with 68,000 miles on it - I didn't think it would go this soon. But, oh well! Sh#t happens, as they say!! How many people have had to replace their clutch, any at this little mileage?
Thanks,
Mike

RE: Clutch is shot
Hey man it really comes down on how hard you drive your whip. Also if its your first manual car. Usually when the clutch goes out, it should give you some signes before hand like you put it is gear and let go of the clutch, your RPM goes up (your clutch slipping). I have burned clutches in a year period (20000mi) and im talking about 6 puck race cluches. Good luck bro. Also a word of advise don't downshift at every stop light it puts too much pressure on the tranny along with everything else.

RE: Clutch is shot
Really don't drive it too hard, I don't race it - street or strip - I took it to the strip three times when I first got it - no big deal. I've driven manuals all my life. The funny thing is, I didn't really feel the clutch slipping at all before. It just crapped out. And, it's not like I was doing 80 and slammed it into 2nd and let the clutch out, I was doing about 25 when I put it into 2nd and let the clutch out. A lot of times I don't downshift at all - I'll just put the clutch in and come to a stop using the breaks.
