rearend problem,help please!
my name is wendell, i have a 65 mustang that i'm working on. i removed the rearend out from under the car to do some work, while i had it out i thought i'd clean the rearend and paint it. well i removed the ring and pinion and cant figure out where or how i should say to get it set back to where it was. it's a 8" i believe. i never removed the bearing races from the pinion and it dosent have any shims on the side. its an intergral third member. everything looked fine bearin and gear wise i just need to get it set back to the same wear pattern can someone help me. thanks, wendell.
Since you took out the pinion youre going to need to get a new crush sleeve. Then if you properly shim it for the correct amount of backlash you should be able to get the wear pattern the same. This is only if it was installed correctly before you removed it.
Here is directions on how to do it. http://www.corral.net/tech/drivetrain/gears.html
