i have a 71 302 mexican block thats had a plethora of work done to it. boring, honing, blueprinted, , new crank, main bearings, forged pistons/rods etc.I have a edlebrock performer intake #2121, edlebrock 600carb. im in the process of building this engine up to drop in my 65mustang.

my issue arises when looking at a new cam, (lunati voodoo cam part #10350700LK)and suggested by the lunati rep., that it has a different firing order (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8) vs (1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8) which is what i thought was standard on that block, also the "old" firing order is on the intake. is there a compatibility issue that i should be concerned about. ive read that just changing arround the spark plug wires into the order will solve this. but i wanted an oppinion from a larger source.

I'm not the most knowledgeable here on this subject, but I do know that earlier 302s have a different firing order than the HO motors. And since the cam determines firing order, I'd think you could just use the Lunati reps advice and swap the wires around.

I'm not sure on this, putting a roller cam in an earlier block. I'd wait for more responses from someone that knows for sure. Or start a thread in the Fox/SN section. Someone will chime in with the correct info.

that cam is a flat tappet cam, although it uses the 5.0L HO and 5.8L Windsor firing order. Simple matter of rearranging the firing order of the plugs. This cam just basically switches the valve timing from old firing order to new. Since you are running a carb , all youll have to worry about it the plug wires,,,,

If you were putting it in a non HO efi such as a bronco , then you would also need to change the fuel injector pattern.
