Default Underdrive Pulleys

Looking to do underdrive pulleys... also looking to replace stock alternator with a high amperage one either from a newer stang or buy the upgraded one meant for fox's.

i heard that the car wont charge properly with underdrive pulleys,

has anyone put underdrive pulleys and the high amp alternator? how is it?

yeah i heard dont go with piggyback pulleys, i really dont know what that means (piggyback) but yeah i know that steeda has the pulley set that everyone says to go with. and if it really gives you at least 8 horsies its WELL WORTH the 100 bucks, plus with the simple install , ****... the things we do to make that blue and red line climb

to be safe, plus just to say i have it, im going to do a high output alternator first

Piggyback pullies require the stock crank pulley to be bolted to the new crank pulley in order to have a harmonic balancer. The harmonic balancer isn't really a balancer but a torsional damper. When the crankshaft turns it acts like a very stiff watch spring. When each cylinder fires the rotational forces wind the "spring"in one direction, and the compression forces resist that spring tension. As the crank goes through the loading and unloading of the "spring"this sets up harmonic rotational vibrations.Over time, these vibrations can cause cracks to form and weaken the crank, just like bending a papreclip back and forth will cause it to break.Breakage in the crankshaft won't happen this quick but after several million back and forth cycles it will break. There's no way to put a damper inside the engine in our cars at each crank throw so it has to go on the outside. Some aircraft engines have dampers on each counter weight but we won't go into that other than to show how important engine makers consider harmonic vibrations to be.About the alternator. If your'e worried about charging issues, just don't change the alternator pulley.

so if i were to go with the steeda pulleys i wouldnt have to worry about everything you just explained about using piggback pulleys?

also with the underdives, what kind of performance increase can i explect, i know HP is supposed to boost 8-10 hp but what about throttle response/ accelartation being that there is less resistance from the water pump and alternator?

You shouldn't have any problems with the pullies. You can expect about 2 RWHP. lol. But your throttle response and pick up should be quicker.

They don't "Boost" HP. They transfer HP from driving your accessories to the rear wheels.

Go with steedas, they are known to be the best. Dont worry about anything.
