Default RE: 3.90 gears

i almost went w/ them.

on my last notch i had 4.10's and said i would never go less, then i sytarted thinking about hi r' son the freeway...and got 3.73's since the speed shop didn't carry 3.90's (motorsport doesn't make them)

anyway...after a week, (the gears weren't in yet) i went back and got the 4.10's

but, at about 70-75 and 4.10's i was tach'ing 3 grand but 4.10's will run like a raped ape. old notch went 13.20's on 4.10's , et streets and exhaust

my buddies notch w/ et streets and 3.73's he said felt like it bogged a bit still on a hard launch.

3.90's might be a happy median...but still not saving enuff mpg to not just get 4.10's but like i said...i have never driven a car w/ them

get 4.10 or nothin! unless you're gettin the 3.90 basically for free. you answered your own question about where the gears are. rigth in between 3.73 and 4.10.

3.90 is a awasted gear. The RPM Difference in Overdrive is less than 200 RPM from the 3.73 to the 4.10.

They are alos a nightmare to properly set up.

But wiht 3.90 gears most stangs with power adders will run the trap in 4rth. 4.10 gears often would require a 4 to 5 shift, which could hurt your performance. Hey Nitrostang, as far as i'm concerned, there are only a handful of individuals that drive nitrostangs. Jon Force being one of them. Nitro does not equal nitrous. And it bothers me when car owners use the term 'nitro' for 'nitrous'. Nitro means only one thing. Nitromethane.

AHHHhhhhhhhhhh.. I love the smell of Nitro in the morning... smells like..... VICTORY! LOL
But you are assuming a manual tranny. I just put in 4.10's and a T-Lok in my 03 3.8 Auto.. and WHAT A DIFERENCE!! Still have a bit of perma-grin...

Sorry that it bothers you so much. I have a car here at my shop. 2003 4.6 2 Valve motor with a Vortech and 4.10s. Goes through the traps in 4th gear with no issues. Oh yeah. It also gets 19 mpg when driving normally.

When I was younger my dad took me to the nitro drags. We were walking in the pit and one of the funny car drivers let me sit in the car. Its cool how there are only 2 gears.
No worries, it doesn't bother me. To me, nitro means one thing.
