Default clutch fork play without cable

So I'm doing the coyote swap (2011 5.0 motor) into a 2000 mustang v6 automatic which is now a T56 magnum. My problem is when I joined the motor and transmission together along with a Ram power grip clutch kit, new throw-out bearing and clutch fork. I can only slide the clutch fork forward and backward about 1/2inch. Is this normal or should the fork be able to slide freely along the shaft (without the clutch cable)? There's only about a 1/2inch gap between the throw-out bearing and the clutch. I'll post up some pics of it a little later.
