Default Rocker arm trouble

I'm building a 1975 Maverick.. the 302 I built is new from top to bottom. I'm running a hydraulic non roller cam with roller rockers. And with the 351W heads, screw in studs the stock 1970 model push rods were alittle to short ( I used a length checker ).. After adjusting the valves the rocker is riding on the side of the valve.. I'm not running guide plates, but I guess I may half to. I'm also thinking that since the push rods are .060 longer than stock that the push rod maybe making the rocker ride like that.. Not sure.. Any help would be appreciated..
