Default Why do you use a fuel additive?

Hi everyone,

I am still new so I want to clarify that I do work for the makers of STA-BIL® (also manufacture 104+® Octane Boost, HEET®, 303® Products).

We are not looking to bait a brand debate but are more interested in why you use fuel additives (if you do).

Have a great day!

I feel as if most of them are snake oil. That said, you'll find that many here will use a bottle of Techron every 3,000 miles or so and Sea Foam when certain conditions issues.

I'm sure most of us have been using your product in 2 cycle engines for quite some time.

+1 ^^^

I don't use anything in my car. But have used Seafoam on my snowmobiles. Before the snow flies, I give the carbs a good cleaning, then run Seafoam in my first tank to take care of anything I missed. It's more of a piece of mind thing, but have seen this stuff work very well in other circumstances.

I use stabil over the winter months in my Mustang and any 2-cycle fuel I didn't burn up over the summer or fall. Beyond that I never use additives.

I don't use anything in fuel-injected engines, but use an ethanol treatment (have used Sta-Bil but can't always find it) in all my motorcycles with carbs.

I use Techron about once a year.
I use StaBil in the five gallon can of emergency gas for the generator.Storm Sandy created a need for one. I drain the lawnmower tank,so no need of anything there..
I might not use my Mustang for the winter,as I have another car with front wheel drive.-Should that be the case,I would add StaBil360 to the tank.

I dont use anything in my car, due to it being a DD. My dirtbikes, I will clean the carbs every other month and run some Sea Foam through the tank if needed. I dont keep fuel sitting around the garage long enough to use Sta-Bil. Now if I lived up north, where is gets extremely cold, I would probably use Heet during the winter.

Default Seafoam Question

I have a 1999 GT Convertible with 45,500 original miles that has been sitting for over years that I have brought back to life. After many new parts and countless man hours it runs. It had a rusty gas tank (which was replaced as well as the pump & filter) with old rusty gas in the lines and through injectors so I added a whole can of Seafoam to the fuel tank that had maybe 5 gallons of fresh gas in it not reading the instructions properly. Now it has a rough idle almost like a miss and billowing out smoke. What should I do to help clear this up? Run it out before I fill up the gas tank or should I dilute it and drive it for a while? Also would this do any long term damage? I already cleaned the fouled plugs which stopped it from stalling.
