Default Replacing a convertible top

I am new to this forum so I hope I am posting this question in the correct place. We have a 2007 Mustang convertible and the binding on the edges of the top is cracking and separating. I am told that to replace it the top would have to come off so it might as well be replaced. I am fairly good at car repairs and I see an installation video for the top on the internet. Has anyone replaced a top themselves? Is it something that a home hobbyist could do? Also what is the cheapest source for a replacement top? Thanks for any and all help.

Yep, if you have basic skills then you can do it and I would strongly suggest you at least try it.
The way I figured it was that the cheapest quote I got for replacing my top was $1500.00. I bought my replacement top for about $250.00 and the DVD for around $25.00. I could absolutely screw it up to a fair-thee-well about 5 times before I reached the point where I should have farmed the job out. Thankfully, I smacked it out of the park on the first attempt so I figure I saved over a grand.

I used the video for replacing the top on my 02. I think the video I got was from A1 or Aok or something like that and it was a wet dream. The tear down and installation was explained in great detail & I would have been lost without it.

I tried to use my trusty Arrow T50 stapler and even my Powershot stapler but they were nonstarters. I bought a cheapy electric stapler from Lowes and that sped the process up greatly.

I screwed up when ordering though. I bought the wrong top without the rear defrost glass and didn't realize that until the installation was complete and I was ready to reconnect the wiring for it. DOH! But so far that hasn't been an issue so I can't beat myself up too bad for that.
