Grille and bumper swelling.....help
Has anyone ever seen this before? This is my '79 Mustang that has been in the family since new and has just turned 20,000 miles. The car has always been garaged, although an unheated garage since new. This winter I've lost my storage and have had it outside for the last several months. In the last few weeks, the front bumper and grille has swollen so much it's bulging out in all directions and is about 2" wider at the bumper, so much that I can get my fingers between the side clearance lights and the bumper. It seems like it must be absorbing moisture and swelling, but I can't imagine how the plastic could absorb the moisture. Any ideas? Thanks, Bill

Wow! I've heard that the early Foxes had warpage issues, but I hadn't actually seen one that bad. As I understand it, it has something to do with the material Ford used in models up into the early '80s, and the effects are even worse in cold temperatures.
If you can find parts, you'll want to replace them with the updated/better materials.
