six speed trans...
I bought a 1997 Cobra Mustang SVT ... someone changed the transmission from a five speed to a six speed... the speedo works it reads about ten miles fast at ninety.... and the odometer does not count the miles... I don't know if it is the sender.. or if a person can get one out of a newer Mustang ... I believe the 98 came out with the six speed... I bought this car in Georgia as a non working ... hauled it 1500 miles back and have got it running ... new fuel pump, new clutch, plugs, wires... it has a 147,000 miles at least... it runs pretty damn good... but the speedo deal drives me nuts... and I am looking for a pair of front leather seats ... any color...can anyone help me with this speedo thing...

Depends on weather it's gear driven or digital. I don't know for sure without some research. If it's gear driven then you will have to do some math based on final drive of trans and your ring gear/tire size and ford sells them color coded. There are lots of sites to calculate that for you. If it's digital then you will have to adjust it in the tune.

Ok just did a quick google it appears it is gear driven so my guess would be either the difference in the trans gear ratios are causing it or the PO also changed the ring gear. Either way what you need is the correct speedo gear. You can get them from American muscle or the like.
