I would like to get the speedo correct. Can you help me determine what drive gear I have?
Only a few different drive gears were used on the transmission output shaft, like 7, 8, and 9 teeth, if I remember right. But even if you have one in your hand, the spiral cut is such that it's hard to count the teeth. Looking in through the hole near impossible. Very early they were steel, later nylon. Some transmissions had the gear machined right on the output shaft, so you had no choice of teeth number without changing the whole shaft.
If you tell me your tire size, axle gear ratio, and number of teeth on the cable driven gear on the bottom end of cable, I can determine for you what number of drive teeth are needed. Gears were color-coded, but not consistently. imp
