Default 64.5 Mustang powermaster genalternator install

I installed a powermaster alternator to replace my generator in my 64.5 mustang convertible . I ran the cable from the back of the alternator to the positive side of the solenoid, and a ground wire from the alternator to the firewall. I then unhooked and taped up all wires going to the external voltage regulator and taped up the wires that use to go to the old generator. now I have no power to start the car, no internal lights or head lights. only the horn works. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 407-404-2469

Aside from the mechanical voltage regulator used with the generators, there is very little difference in the wiring between a generator and alternator equipped system.

Not knowing enough about the powermaster set-up, I can only say that if you can provide diagrams or photos of the unit, it may be possible to figure it out.

First don't run your ground cable to the firewall. Wire it to the engine block because the ground cable of the battery is attached to the block not the body. Then you won't be relying on the ground circuit to complete through the motor mount or a small ground strap from engine to body, if there is one. I believe if you had two wires attached to the "B" terminal of the gen regulator even though you disconnected them they still have to be connected to themselves to supply current to the ignition switch.

Default generator to alternator

I hooked the two yellow wires together near the voltage regulator and I have power, lights and ignition. now I have to figure out how to get my generator light to work. Any ideas would be appreciated. making progress. Still missed the car show.

On their website, which is horrible by the way, they say their model #82091-2 comes with a lamp terminal. Model # 82091 doesn't. What's the model number of the one you bought?

Also FAQ on their website #5 .. http://powermastermotorsports.com/fa...rnators_a.html

I figured it out. I do have the light post and had to run a wire from the post on the alternator to the small yellow original wire near the old external regulator.

Default Voltage regulator question

Hi all.
I just signed up and have a question regarding the conversion topic that was discussed here in the past.
I am planning to upgrade to the Powermaster gen style alternator.
So, as I am reading through forums and wiring diagrams in oder to figure out how to do this, one question came to mind. May be it is a stupid one but regardless. Here it comes.

When installing the wiring. The charging wire from the alternator is hooked up to the battery side of the starter solenoid. Now when the alternator gets to charging voltage arround 14V with the voltage regulator removed from the curcuit, won’t that apply 14V to the cabin, horn and ignition switch and cause damage to components?

I might be misunderstanding something here or simply don’t know better.

Thanks in advance for teaching me. 😅
