I need to replace the plastic piece where the windshield mirror slides on. The track on one side cracked off so I have the mirror rigged on there but it rattles around quite a bit. I think it is attached to the glass with some adhesive of some sort. Anyone had to do this? Where can I get the part? Thanks in advance for the help.

 

I think that the piece that your talking about is metal but could be wrong. Anyway any auto part store should have it in there help section. I know that autozone has it. Now to take it off I'm not sure.

 

If it's plastic, then it's been replaced before. Best way to get that one off is to use a heat gun from the outside over the area where it's glued. Don't use anything to try to pry it off before you heat it up or you could damage the windshield. For your year, Pep Boys is probably better place to look. Get metal and don't be surprised if it takes a couple of tries with the glue to get it to stick again.

 

That should be metal, Ive put in more windshileds than I can count and never came across a plastic one. You can use a torch or heatgun to get it to *** off until it jus pulls off. As for the glue we use sum **** that has a primer we put onto the metal piece n a adhesive on the windshield. I forget what its called but you also use poly urethane (the acutal windshield glue), or anything else that is real sticky.

 

Yeah, you guys are right, its metal. Just the way it cracked a while back, I assumed it was a hard plastic. So, a heat gun to the outside of the windshield? Now I just need to get my hands on a heat gun...

Any thoughts on where to get the part?
