Default Dirty CAI filter?

Is it normal for the filter to turn black only in one area? Does this constitute a filter than needs cleaning or changing? Don't see much debris on it.

The air coming through the front of the car is hitting that portion of the filter. That is not a
CAI, it's a short ram. You can loosen the filter and turn it in 45 degree increments till you
have one solid band of dirt. Or, yeah, just clean it...

Your stock intake was actually a CAI, ^that's just to be pretty... A true CAI would be piped
into the fender well, and the cone or barrel filter would be inside the fenderwell. You won't
see one like that on my cars for $200+, I refuse to pay bloat for a pretty intake... There is one
for $35.00 on FB Marketplace, I would buy that, well, because it's $35.00.

Clean it. I use the K&N recharge kit sold at my local auto parts store for around $20 and good for 3 or 4 cleanings. Always run the water from the inside to the outside of the filter

Truth is all of those filters will flow more than the engine can consume and cause no particular restriction until WOT or in a forced induction application.....if even then!!

You can't tell anyone clean it with K&N recharge kit, you don't know if it's oiled or dry!
He didn't say either, so the guessing game is a'foot.

I have said that hundreds of times... Turbo and supercharged cars, it's different,
but almost every naturally aspirated engine is well below the CFM rating of
all those filters.

I have a red element filter, dry, blue, and green... You can't see that it's
oiled or not. Can't see the top if it says K&N or not, and he didn't even say
what brand it was. I am not gong to assume either way, and this is what
happens when people aren't detailed about their issues.

I use the K&N recharge cleaning kit on my C&L cone air filter. 'Only' because it's sold at my local auto parts store. It's the same color (red dye) as the cleaning kit sold by C&L. If someone wants to have a blue tint to their oiled cone filter you can use the Mopar recharge cleaning kit.

Mine is a dry JLT filter. I will rotate it and see what happens with it. I'm not happy with the way it mounts to the tube. I've had it too loose and fall off, but too tight deforms the tube. Is it so difficult for them to put a lip on the tube for capturing the filter.
