I am trying to figure out what this bar is called. I have an '05 base convertible that has been sitting for about a year. I'm looking to fix it up to sell and wondering if it's worth it. I am looking for what the name of the bar is that's rotted away. Can't seem to find it in any of the parts catalogs. It goes from just behind the door, to the middle of the trunk and a bar goes up behind the gas tank and attaches up there as well. So 3 attachment points. I would appreciate the help!
That is the extra support brace found on the convertible. They do rot out and expensive to get the original from Ford. There is a guy here who makes them, look in the classified section. His is an improvement over stock.
Or just take them off. Many people have just left them off with no problems. A friend was pushing 800 RWHP on his 2005 convertible and had no issues with the bracing left off.
Looks easy enough to make, I can see where it would add support for the hump area over the axle that get's lost with the lack of roof structure. I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with horsepower, but rather bumps, dips, etc on roadways over miles and time. They'd simply exist in tension.
