Problems with my Rev Limiter or not?
Hey, what's up all.
This is my first post here on these forums as I'm a newly registered member. I may or may not have a problem with my Mustang so I decided to come here and create a post so that I can recieve feedback from those who are most familier with my car. Well, enough jibber jabber, here's the deal.
My Car:
2001, Convertible, v6, Automatic, Mustang.
Problem:
When I rev my car, the rev limiter kick in at 4,000RPMs while the car is in Neutral which, from memory, never happened before. When I keep the car in first gear it revs past the redline which is at about 5,250RPMs or more. In fact, I've never hit the rev limiter while the car was in gear and have no idea where the rev limiter sits. I'm pretty sure I've past the redline while the car was in neutral before. Although the Check Engine light is not on, should I take it in to find a possible code # given from the computer or is my Mustang acting as it should?

RE: Problems with my Rev Limiter or not?
alot of cars have a rev limiter for park or neutral set much lower. I guess they put it in so you dont blow your engine while sitting still. someone else more knowlegable on the subject will correct me, but thats all i know.

RE: Problems with my Rev Limiter or not?
I could have sworn I've hit the redline before while in neutral but I just can't put my word on it. I can't recall actually hitting it. But I do recall reving my engine while in neutral plenty of times and you would think that I would have easily hit 4,000RPMs and I would have noticed this sooner. So I guess I need someone who has a Mustang around the 01 model to reply or just someone who knows the answer in general.
**Edit**
Well, after searching the forums some more and talking to my friends, I believe what you were refering to is called a Standing Rev Limiter. Now the question is, does my 01 v6 Mustang have a Standing Rev Limiter? So now I'm pretty confident that their's nothing wrong with my car, but it would be nice to have someone to verify this. Also, where does my Rev Limiter sit while it's in gear?

RE: Problems with my Rev Limiter or not?
The V6 does have a standing rev limiter. And the load rev limiter is set at redline stock. You can change both with a flash tuner. I have the DiabloSport and I set my park/neutral limit at 5000 RPM, and in gear it's set at 6250 RPM. Kinda strange tho, before I got the Diablo, I went over 6000RPM drag racing once...And I still can't go over about 4800 RPM in neutral...
