I had 4.10's and swapped them for 4.30's.

I'm glad you saw the light!

Your buddies car having 500hp and 4.10's is why it was such a nightmare to drive on the street...

dude if it's $300 for installation only that is a huge ripoff. it should be about $200 for install for $400 complete

it's $300 install around here. it depends on your area. $500 for everything is considered a good deal where i live. there's a couple shops that charge $700 or more.

Issue of hotrod a while back had an article where they were testing out different gears. They basically concluded that 4.10/4.11 gears are the best mid point between highway speed and and off-the-line torque. I know my old man used to run 4.50's in his car and he could freakin climb it up a wall, but he was hitting like 5 grand at 60 mph.

keep in mind the other part of the equation is tire size. When you compare to other cars you also have to know the tire size. You don't need as much gear if you run a short tire. Just to give an example;
3.73 rear gears with 26 inch tall tires
gives the same performance and top speed as
4.30 gears with 30 inch tall tires

So... I'm losing performance having my 18s. Well damn lol. Anyways, I read all of the comments, and you all convinced me to do 4.10s too. I can't afford them any time soon since i have other stuff i want to do first, but I'll get them sometime in early spring hopefully. A remote starter is next on my shopping list simply because I'm lazy, and I wouldn't have to go outside to start it and warm it up when it's cold. Haha, I strayed way off topic. Anyways, I'm looking forward to feeling the acceleration of the 4.10s.

In fear this may start something that is going on in another thread, the 18" wheels make no difference, the tallness of the tire is the factor.
