Default HYDRO LOCK QUESTION....

I have a 2001 mustang 3.8 V6 and drove through a puddle that i didn't expect to be as deep and ended up getting stuck. Anyhow the car died and didn't start. I pulled all of the spark plugs, started the car and pump all of the water that was left. I let it dry popped the plugs back in. Drained the oil and filled it back up. I then started the car and it's making a knocking sound. Can someone tell me what's wrong? Did I blow a piston? or piston rod? If that were the case then the car wouldn't even start correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

holy cow... wait a minute a puddle?!

that has to be one deep puddle because your intake is prety freaken far from the ground i doubt that it actually hydrolocked.... unless your car has a vortech supercharger. because on a V6 the location of the filter is actually behind the fog light. and thats prety low to the ground. (on a Vortec that is)

2 feet? ehhhh, the the stock filter and the cold air intake location is just right out side of the engine bay in the fender. IT should still be prety tough for water to get in there.. BUT if you look right under your car.. you can actually see your filter from under it...

generally when you hydro lock your engine its toast... but you said its KNOCKing. gas maybe? low octane gas ususaly creates knocking noises.. but iam still not sure on how it would get IN the gas.. but its a long shot...

if it comes down to you needing a new engine.. ebay has 3.8 engines for like 600 bux.

so buying full exhaust would be 2 times the cost of buying a whole new engine [:@]... i hate to think about things that way, it makes me feel like im wasting my money.

I know it's going to cost some money. A friend of mine assumes it might me a blown valve if that's the case how much do they run? and with labor? Also what might you think also be the problem?

How long did it run under water? and how much water was in the cylinders? If it ran for more than a few seconds with water in the cylinders, it's toast. Water doesn't compress very Well. You could do a compression test to see if you may have bent a valve or cracked a piston. But my money says you will need a new set of heads at the very least. More like a new engine. Now would be the time to put a 4.2 stroker from supersixmotorsports in. Go with the stage 3!!
