Default what size tires

hey im getting new tires for after winter. Im getting mickey thompson ET street radials but i need to know what size to get for the rear. I know nothing about tires. I have the stock 2002 17inch 5spokes.

Excellent choice in tires my friend.. how much and where from is the question though..lol

but, if you want to go as wide as possible, on the stock 8" rim, go with a 275/40/17

i'll describe the numbers in a very general way

275=width in millimeters, so, its just the width
40= something to do with % of tire that is sidewall, so just remember the second number is in regards to sidewall height (45 is stock, pretty small, but on trucks its like 70+. so more tire)
and finially 17= pretty obvious

here is a picture of 275/40/17 MT ET Street Radials on my stock 99 rims

i forgot to mention that this is the correct size to maintain stock tire height so it doesnt mess with your speedometer

Yeah the second number is the percent of the width that makes up the profile. I hate when people say a 45 series tire isnt low profile but a 40 series tire is, because it totally depends on how wide the tire is to start with. Sorry im ranting, but i hate that bullsh.

very informative, thank you very much. I'm actually getting a predator tuner so the speedo shouldn't be a problem... but im also getting 4.10's in the future.
