google greg csernai
not sure on the spelling but i think i got it... he owns "great lakes customs"
10 years running (at least) for "fastest stang in america"
it's a '79 w/ a 460
i wasn't just giving my opinion.....i was stating fact.

My opinion is, it would be a terrible mistake.
First, the 460 is heavy.
Second, it is very wide, not sure it would fit.
Second, is a fuel injected, digital (computer controlled, not just electronic) ignition version even available? Realize that you forfiet a lot of driveability, a ton of fuel economy, and about 10%-20% potential for power if you give up both fuel injection and electronic computer controlled ignition.
Third, this is not a swap where you are going to find parts easy to find. headers will be a big headache. The engine is wide, the engine bay in your car narrow, and probably no one makes a set for this engine/body combo.
You will end up with a better car (lighter) and more HP if you go with a really good stroker or a SC'd stroker if you want a lot of HP, and even that would cost less.
sorry to go off topic, whats someone with a porsche doing on mustangforums? shouldnt you be on rennlist or something, and do you have any pics of the cars?
I have seen pics of his cars, why does it matter what he drives? Lee seems to be pretty smart and into cars in general. Do you not think he should be here just cause he does not have a Stang?

RE: 460 In MY 1990 Mustang
for everyone bitching about weight, here are the specs.
302 (up to 347 cid)- 440 lbs
351W (up to 427 cid)- 510 lbs
460 (up to insanely big, 550 probably)- 640 lbs
and just for fun, 7.3 L powerstroke weighs 1010 lbs [sm=jawdrop.gif][sm=jawdrop.gif]
do research before posting info. 200 pounds more. with the "100 lbs is 1 tenth" thing, that knocks off two tenths. not to mention putting aluminum heads on a 460 would lighten a heck of a lot more than doing the same on a 302. now lets look at power possibilities. looks to me like it can get about 200 cid more than a 302, 125 over the 351W. assuming 100% volumetric efficiency (extremely easy to come by), that would be 200 hp over a 302 and 125 hp over the 351W. 1 hp/lb is a pretty damn good ratio. keep in mind a well modified mustang is probably pushing aroun 10 pounds for each hp. the swap wont be horrible. they sell headers and motor mounts. there is plenty aftermarket for the 460. and people have done it, so there is help available.
i suggest you do more research into the 460. keep in mind that this car will handle like absolute sh*t, u will have absolutley no gas mileage, and it will be a pretty expensive project. then choose what u want. i had the same idea. the 351W came out to be the best deal for me

And back on topic: it is possible to do anything if you have enough money, determination, and/or will accept a really screwed up car as a result: I knew a guy who stuffed a stroked 302 in a Bugeye Sprite (it was fast, and sometimes it even went where he pointed it). A 460 in a '90 Mustang strikes me as being in that category: something you can do but should only start if you really have alot of time, $$$, and talent.

RE: 460 In MY 1990 Mustang
i was going to run a 351 stroked to a 418 in my94 gt... after realizing all the things you honestly need to to it is nuts... totally not worth it...stroke out a 303,,, run a 347 or something like that!

btw like viking said i would dump the dual carb set up. go with a big single its much easier to tune. unless you are some kind of freak when it come to tuning carbs not many people can do it properly these days.
