Judging by your picture, your car is stick. Disregard this if its not, but you cant do remote start on a stick car. They run about $200 installed, and I dont know of any brand names, I think its pretty much whatever the place you go to has. They work good, but are just one more thing to break. And if you have a chip in your key, youll need another key to keep in the car, so add whatever that is on to the bill. Nice to have in the winter though.

DEI is my favorite. I've had a Viper and an Avistart, both very good units. You can add to a stick, just most places won't. You really need to add something that will keep it from starting if left in gear (thus the reason most places won't do the install). You shouldn't need an extra key though. Most unit these days have bypass modules that do the same thing. I know DEI has one for Ford. I had one in my '03 F150. Plus you can add several other nifty gadgets. Light controls, window controls, etc...

I installed a CrimeGuard 745i alarm system that I bought from Crutchfield. The unit is made by DEI.

I later bought and installed the optional Omega remote start unit. Also made by DEI.

Great system rolls up all four windows when arming, locks & unlocks doors, trunk. Has a dual zone sensor so the unit chirps a warning if you walk to close to the car. Great feature for a convertible, as we found out the hard way, yes someone broke into it by cutting the top, which is a vary common way that verts are broken into.

On to the remote start unit. Yep it's great, leave the heat set to hot and fan on high, hit the remote start button, have a nice warm defrosted car on cold morning. And when it's scorching hot out, leave the a/c on, and it's nice to climb into a cooled down car.

The reason I mentioned the alarm system, if you are going to the expense of a remote start why not add a full alarm system? I installed all of the above, myself, took all weekend, but it's cool.

Bestbuy, Electronic Express, Circuit City all sell and install the stuff.

do it... you really like it!

Not true. I have a 5-speed and I have a Viper remote start and full alarm on it (I'm with sarahstang on that one - do it). Have it in neutral with the e-brake engaged, press both arm and disarm and voila! ignition. Hasn't failed me yet, and you want to talk about a creature comfort. Well worth the money...

If it happens to be in gear, the remote will not turn the car over, either - crucial detail! [sm=smiley22.gif]

Just curious what are you using to kill the start if it's left in gear? I plan on adding a Viper one of these days...

What model do you have? The 560XV? Im thinking about that or the clifford, only because the clifford has 2 way paging.

What do you mean? I would say that I am not using anything. The car just does nothing if it's in gear. I may not be understanding your question. Do you mean how is it wired to make that work?
Once I forgot that I had it in gear and tried to remote start it. I was so PO'd thinking that the remote starter fried, got to the car and it was in 2nd in addition to the e-brake. Slipped it into N, backed off just to check, and it busted right off.
