Default HELP: Thinking of buying a 3.8l tommorow

1997 Mustang 3.9 v6 automatic

This is going to be my first real car and I need some second opinions. I'm just looking for realiability right now, a car that won't break down frequently or stutter/stall taking off from red lights like the ****ed up jetta I used to own. How realiable would this model be?

3.9L was only offered second half of 04, kinda rare in terms of mustangs...the one you're looking at will be a 3.8L

Look around the V6 forum, maybe ask a few questions there. You might get more answers. I personally have very little experience with V6 Mustangs, but most guys/gals seem quite happy with them in all aspects...

If possible, I would recommend you getting at least a 99. the 99+ mustangs have 193 hp vs. 150 and below for 98 and before...a huge difference.

I would recommend the 3.8L 1997. Its the same thing as my 1998, which I have found very reliable. I haven't had any problems with it yet. The only downside is that the one you want is automatic, not manual.

I would suggest taking a look at the above site and also doing more research on similar sites, and at http://www.consumerreports.org, that sort of thing.

actually, a 98 has 5 more HP than a 97, and a 99 will have about 50 HP more then a 97

if you can try and get atleast a 99+ because thats when ford converted the v6's over to split port. and that did wounders for HP.. like they said. 150 vs 193... its your choice.
