I read vfast's post about how he tells people his alternator bearing is going out so they dont think its his SC. My car shuts off while driving and it has been doing this funny little whining noise. When it does die and I try to start it it takes about a minute before it starts. Even if I do it 10 times within the minute or once it always takes about the same amount of time. When I do try to start it it will light up but the volt cage doesnt hit where its supposed to then dies and while its doing that it is whining like crazy. Is this the alt? can is be soemthing else?

 

sounds like it a easy check is take a digital volt meter and see what reading you get when the car is running it should be around 14 volts if it is 12.5 or less you deff have a charging problem.

 

Well if it was the bearing would that cause a charging problem?

 

i dont think a bad bearing would make it not charge, but i've never encounterd a bad bearing
so not i'm not 100% on that, the shuting off while driving anfd then hard start
also could be a bad TFI module, my work car was doing that and sure enough thats what it was.
not sure about the whinning noise

 

when you say tfi you mean the coil right? Cause I upgraded to the msd you think it could be that?
