Question about overdrive

RE: Question about overdrive
well, yes, if your cruising @ 45 mph, technically it will suck a little more gas. But, gas is a lot cheaper than rebuilding the tranny when overdrive goes out on you after all the shifting it will do in town. I usually leave mine off unless i know that i will be on a highway or something like that. In town, i dont want it shifting into OD. I loose power and sound as well.

RE: Question about overdrive
My last four cars all were OD automatics and I ran them everyday in town and out on the road with the OD permanently on.The transmissions never wore out and all had 100k plus before they were sold.Yes your gas mileage will suffer with the OD off even in town because you don't coast as far with the engine still in 3rd gear.

RE: Question about overdrive
Im just speaking from my experience, but my 1st mustang, a v6 auto, the od went out and had 74000 miles on it. I was too young to know to turn it off. So, I just do it to "preserve". Its kind of like being bit by a dog, you really dont trust them anymore if you know what i mean....
