trnny leaking

Default trnny leaking

brought my car to the shop and they said the front and back seals are leaking. in order to change the front they said thet have to drop the tranny. its an 00 auto with 92000k miles. how much should this job cost...includ tranny fluid change and filter?

This is one situation where a trusted shop is worth it's weight in gold.When that shop tells you "the thing needs rebuilt" you can depend on it.Unfortunately,unless you know someone who has dealt with a particular shop,you're going to be pretty much on your own.I don't like the R&R shops,the ones that have a supply of rebuilt trannys.They just remove yours and replace it with a rebuilt unit.Most of the national chains are this type.A local buisness thats been around for awhile is usually the best choice.The one I go to just loves to take you to the rebuild bench and show you all the parts that are TO BE replaced.You get to make the final decision.The point to my long answer is,be careful and don't let them screw you.

have them make sure the rear main seal is good because the trany has to come out for it too it should only add about 20 bucks to the job.
