Bumping your timing up shouldn't cause a hard/no start condition, there is something(fuel pump, dizzy module, dizzy stator sensor, coil, ign switch, FP relay, EEC relay...) that is starting to show problems. You don't need to upgrade (MSD, etc) the ignition to compensate. The best way to id what might be causing the condition, is to do a FP and spark check first, when it has the no start condition. You can also check the EEC-IV system for codes by following this DIY procedure and post back the results. A bad TPS can also cause a hard/no start condition. LUK(=Let us Know)

I guess it depends on what everyones definition of "bumped" is. Bumped like 10 or 20 degrees IS going to make it harder to start. Bumped like 2 or 3 degrees from stock shouldn't make a difference.

What is the timing set at right now? Set it back to 10* and call it a day. Your not going to miss the 2 HP anyway, plus you will be able to start the car and actually drive it.

Glad you found your problem. As a future tip when a car has a hard time starting always start with the cheapest fix when it comes to troubleshooting. If you car is having a hard time starting and turns over hard it could also be a dead cell in your battery. I had that once in my Explorer and changed the starter out thinking it was that. It wasnt, but it was a dead cell-Shane
