Default missing something

i wanted to check and adjust if necessary my timing. i looked at the crank pulley and dampener and there are no marks for timing anywhere. the only line is a split which i think is tdc. how can i determine where the timing is set and get an accurate reading if i may want to change it. maybe i am missing something here ---

The timing marks really aren't that deep. If there is a lot of rust on the dampener then you probably won't see them. I would hit it with some fine emery or sandpaper to see if you can clean it up. The other option is to locate TDC with the large split that you see and either take some measurements from a buddy's car and mark it off or buy some timing tape at a speed shop and put that on. Without looking at it as I recall 10 BTDC is somewhere like an inch over. The other way is to just mark it off and set it where you get some detonation and then back it off a tad....the # really doesn't matter.

they are there....you need to get under it and clean it up like he said.

you may need to "bump" the starter over a couple times to get them in view from underneath though.

after you clean it up, you can chalk, paint or crayon the marks...then wipe it all off , they will stay bright white for a while like that

Measure the diameter of it and get a timing tape.
