Default Best place for Engine Blocks?

just take the block to a machine shop and get it magnafluxed and make them check everything for cracks etc. And I would recommend getting it rehoned to get all the junk that might have built on the cylinders.

Default Best place for Engine Blocks?

Well I was talking to Johnny Lightning and he had said my best bet for the money would be to go with a wrecked 02 Econoline Van and just take the 351 out of that. Now my question is whats the difference between a 351 out of that van and a 351 windsor?

they didn't put 351's in 02 vans for one, just get one from a 70's or 80's car and it will be a windsor. a motor in a newer van like that isn't going to be a pushrod motor. get it bored, not honed, honing wont get the bores perfect, check for cracks, deck the block and let it rip

obsol, early to mid '80 ford trucks are a good source for the 351W.

500 hp is not out of the question at all in my opinion. A good michine shop might even be able to hook you up as far as a block goes. A main bearing girdle and balanced rotating assembly should take care of the bottom end. A set of aluminum heads with a head stud kit, a good intake, exhaust, and cam matched to the combination as a whole and you should have a very relieable and stout motor.

Did you know that you can stroke those to 427 cu in? That's a big small block!

Then i suggest you drive a short distance and make it a road trip. The "SEASONED" block is a good point as well.As far as your goals thats not out of the question on a used 351 block. But with like anything else PREPARATION is the key.Make sure it is done by a reputable shop. And a stud girdle is a must!

Ok mr GM Killer, you seem to know what you're talking about so could you make me up a bulleted Checklist of things I'd need to have done to the block?
