Default speedometer problems?

1988 Ford Mustang GT.

today i dont know why i just got the sudden feeling to look under my car and when i did, i seen a black hose hanging lower then i think any hose should be, my mom said it was a water hose(but what do chicks know about mechanical stuff right?) another guy said it was my transmission hose(first he asked if i had an automatic) then another guy said it was something else, well driving home from work i notice my speedometer is just sitting at 0, and all the other gagues are working. so uhh? whats the issue can that hose make my speedometer not work? or was it earlier when i floored my car and my rpms went to like 3500 and i left off the gas because it didnt shift? but my speedometer still worked after that. and it shifted once i let the rpms get down.

Thats probably not a hose at all, its your speedo cable and it has come unhooked from one end.....
