the backgound-I have a punched out 302 to a 306 with stock but ported heads and a gt-40 valve train
The question- what should I gap my plugs, and are there any suggested replacement plugs that anyone can suggest

Generally speaking you want to use cooler plugs for a higher performance engine. There named cold plugs becausethey have shorter insulatornoses, to expel heat.
It should be in the .45 inch range on a normally aspirated engine and around .29-.35 inch on cars running forced induction. its a good idea to coat the threads with an anti seize compound befor installation.
