OK, I have a 99 Salen Cobra that I want to take to shows "in and out of state" and put a few ricers in their place around town but I am not 100% sure about 4:10s from all the opinions. The thing that would solidify it for me is what would the tach be at when you are doing 80mph in fifth gear?......right now it at 2200 "boring".....I don't need to save THAT MUCH gas. Anybody have any stats?

3.55s are an all around great gear for most people. 3.73s or 4.10s are great if ypu go to the track or if you dont use your Stang as a daily driver. Remember lower gears will result in higher engine rpm and there will be alot more cabin noise.

I put 3.73s in my 88GT with a Flowmaster exhaust. At the time I was driving 70 miles one way to work, I drove the GT once or twice a week and my Ranger the other days. After the change I couldnt hardly stand to take the GT out on the highway. I loved it in town, but long highway trips were out.

Another option if you have an auto is to chip it and reprogram the shift points, that helps alot.

My 88GT had 3.27s from the factory. If you have a 7.5 and want to upgrade to the 8.8, you may be able to j-yard shop and get the 8.8 and better gears for less than the cost of just new gears.

If you already have the 8.8, you may be able to j-yard shop and get better gears, then sell your 8.8, and get better gears for nearly no cost.

Ok, I'm drivin a 2000 GT. It's manual so ive been lookin at 3.73's. I've been hearin talk about bad highway mileage with that kind of ratio, and that sucks. This is my only option for a vehicle (not that i would want to drive something else) so should i start thinking about something alittle more tame? it would be awesome if someone running 3.73's had calculated their mpg and could let me (and some others im sure) know the actual figues

AAAAHHHHHH! I forgot to add, i was also lookin at a tuner. apparently (correct me if im wrong) they reprogram the ECU, and you can get it to run on less gas. Would this be a bad idea (like damaging the motor) if i were to take long trips, or would the only side effect be less power while im runnin it like that? Otherwise this seems like a good solution to the fuel economy situation.

ive been looking at 8.8 rearends for my V6. I came upon an 8.8 Traction-Lok Posi off of a Crown Victoria. I was wondering would it fit on my Mustang. the rearend is 28 spline. Someone told me the Crown Victoria has different mounting points than a Mustang?

What would be a better gear for an automatic 5.0, with a built motor and going to be supercharged soon?

I am fairly sure i have 4.10s in my car. simply due to the high RPM at highway speed. close to 3k at 70 mph or so.
mileage is bad, but i can't imagine THAT much worse than stock. i get approx. 16 mpg give or take, in a combination of around town and highway driving. i spend probably 75% of the time going around town and the other 25% of the time doing 55+ on the highway. what do you guys get with stock gears, for mileage?

I did a lot of work to a '66 that I used to have but I've never worked on any of the late model mustangs at all. Is it going to be much different between a late model and an '05 for changing out the gears or is it basically going to be the same?
