Default aerodynamic scoops?

Odd question (I think too much):

Are the scoops on the side and on the hood of our mustangs for looks, or do they serve any aerodynamic purpose?

Default RE: aerodynamic scoops?

Looks only.

It rains mud around here so on the occasions I get stuck driving in the rain I can see little lines where the water was traveling off the car (ending on a big, dirty pile on top of the rear bumper [:@]). As for the hood scoop, it is mostly in the way, the water diverts around it. As for the side scoops, a considerable amount of air does not flow over them (not as much as say, the top of the car). The water that ends up on the side of my doors just sits there and leaves spots. Across the top of the door though, just below the window, is where there's a bit of airflow, and there's always a dirty line going down the car back to the spoiler.

if ford was smart, they wouldve made them functional, making the side scoops cool off the rear brakes, and the hood scoop atleast cool off the engine, if not use it as a factory ram air system.

because theyre retarded, id pay the extra what? $5 to have functional scoops.... plus they could also advertize the fact that its weight reduction, getting rid of the metal where the scoop is[8D]

Bullitt side scoop deletes are the best option available currently.

I have a set of OEM Ford scoop deletes from www.1stfordparts.com

I'll get the part numbers later today. FYI they come unpainted so you must paint to match.

thats not true

what about the mach1? the ford GT?

anywho......

as for making them functional, you could do it.....but it probably wouldnt be worth it

ram air kits are useless in my opinion

it will only add 2-3 hp and only at high speeds

check out mustangworld.com for ideas
