Default 03 automatic stuck in park - sometimes

Hi
Have an 03 automatic that won't come out of park most times. Let me explain. When I put the brake on and it won't come out of gear I have no brake lights? When I can get it out of park I have brake lights. Is there some kink of sensor or swith under the pedal ??????

Yes, there is. The auto shift lock is directly connected to the brake lights. It's a safety feature. You need to find out why you brake lights are working intermittent!

Good luck!

Look where the pedals are, if there is a plug hanging down, plug that in. It is common on Fords. My bosses auto F150 did the same thing as well as a friends Taurus. This plug is right behind the pedals. Sometimes you will hit it by accident with your foot, that can unplug it. Your brake lights won't come on and it will not go out of park.

that is correct, there have been many questions about this issue, and that has seemed to fix the problem.

Thanks guys. Thats the problem. The black wire broke at the connector going into that switch. Now how does that black wire connector come out of the switch so i can put the wire back into that connector. I hope that makes sense. Thanks

Here is an example. Look at this pic

It will be similar to this. If you look at the spade terminals, you'll see the tab sticking up in the center of it. That is what locks the terminal into place. You will need something strong and very thin to put into the end of the connector to try and push the tab down so you can get the terminal out of the housing. Then you can either solder the wire back to it or open the connector where the wire goes and recrimp it.

Good luck, hope this helps!
