how far do you guys take your rpms up? my auto is shifting at 4900rpm while my tach goes up to 7000. where do you guys shift at for max acceleration?

That depends on your mods.Without a dyno graph to actually see where your power starts to fall off it's impossible to give an answer.If you want to get some idea of where to set your shift points,leave the tranny in first gear and floor the gas.When acceleration starts to fall off,remember the tach reading.Do this a couple of times to be sure and have the tranny set to shift at that tach reading at WOT.

 

Speaking about readline, if I floor my mustang (I have a auto) it shifts right before redline (at 5800 rpm). Is that normal?

 

i shift at about 5800. I'd think it would be normal for the auto to shift at least closer to redline than 4900. Anyone else have an auto?

i shift at 6800 but thats cause its not stock

 

most stock 5.0 motor start to fall off around 5200.on the factory tach. we shift the wife's car at 6700 we where shifting at 7200 but found that we where over spinning the super charger with the new small pulley so we backed up the shift point

 

my auto shifts at 4500 but then again, my tach only goes to 5.5 or 6k

 

An auto should be shifting right before redline and a manual you should shift barely into redline.
