axleback or cat back
I'm slowly gettin into the swing of things here. I've noticed that there are basically two different type of exhaust systems that you guys use: axleback or cat back. I'm wondering what the difference is between the two, which one yields more horsepower, and which you guys prefer. Also what type do you think I should go with if I'm looking for that deep deep sound?
Axleback and catback describes what part of the exhaust the kit replaces:
*Axleback......from the rear axle back to the exhaust tips. Basicly, the mufflers.
*Catback.......from the catalytic converters back to the exhaust tips. Fore pipes and muffers.
Unless you're making some mad power, neither will make a big difference in performance. It will mostly just change the tone of your exhaust note. However, combined with hi-flow cats and headers.......a catback can help your engine perform considerably better.

This is what I thought too until I looked at the over the axel pipes. Disappointed

the 05-06s have mandural bent tubing, so a cat back is a waste

Just to add my two cents.....If your going purely for a more muscular sound like I was, axle back is without a doubt the way to go, my car sounds insane, ofcourse I have no cats, and flows, but the stock mid-pipes remain. If your going for performance and plan on doing engine work later, then the catback system may be worth a little extra investment, although I imagine that changing the mid-pipe from stock would have a minimal at best performance impact, as it would only be a slightly better bend over the axle.
