Default electric water pump

Has anyone installed the electric water pump? Says it can free up another 17hp. Was just wondering if it's worth the 300+ they want for it.

I am REALLY tempted to get one myself, but the thought of one breaking down on me in the middle of nowhere, with no other way of cooling my engine, scare the crap out of me. I think I'll stick to the time, tested, and true mechanical pump.

This is from BMR's website. They have a project mustang and recently installed the Meziere electric water pump they sell on their website.

"Our first bolt-on power enhancer was an electric Meziere water pump. In some GM LS1 applications, these have been proven to make up to 10 rwhp so we were anxious to see what one could do for the 4.6L. The install itself was very easy, taking only about 45 minutes. Wiring took an additional hour and a half since we had to run the wires through the firewall to access a switched power source. The wiring was run through the factory loom and the relay placed under the OE relay panel in the engine bay. The end result looks factory. We drove the car back down to Anti-Venom to see what the results were worth. On the dyno, the car picked up 3.2 RWHP and 3.8 RWTQ. Not quite as much as were hoping for but every little bit helps. This just goes to show that Ford has a pretty efficient cooling system."

Changed my mind for sure about buying it after reading this.

Hope it helps...

I completely disagree. An EH2O pump is a pretty good mod. First, it is more than double the output of the stock pump, and has that same output at idle ( where a mechanical pump puts out MAYBE 6ltrs at idle ). Plus if you play at the track, you can cool your car completely down in about 5 minutes with one. Oh, and the extra 10 or so ponies that you pick up aren't a bad thing either.

Tik, the EH2O pumps have been around for quite a while. They are nothing new. They have a live expectancy of about the same as a mechanical pump. Your comment about it breaking down in the middle of nowhere and not having any other way to cool your car is a little strange. If your mechanical pump goes out, do you have any other way to cool your car?? If you break a belt or throw a belt, your mechanical pump won't cool your car. But ya know what? An electric one will. Think of it that way.

+1 Another advantage is an electric pump doesn't cavitate at high RPM's like most mechanical pumps will, so coolant keeps circulating well.

Are they really that reliable? I don't know, that's why I can't really trust them.

Which is it 10 hp or 3 hp. gain? For 10 HP its probably worth it, but for 3 hp probably not, unless you were at the track all the time racing.

Meziere rates their pumps at 3000+ hours, which if you assume an average of 40mph that works out to 120,000 miles which is more than adequate in my opinion.

Have to side with Hawg on this one. The meziere is a must have IMO. Part of the reason my car stays alive cause I am always trying to keep it cool. I take 6 bags of ice to the track every time I go and after two passes, 1 bag goes on my s/c and 1 bag goes on my aftercooler. I also have an icebox I reload with 5 lbs of ice after every 2 passes. I seriously think this has contributed to my stock engine staying intact with over 500 hp. Every dyno and every set-up is different so I wouldn't take their 3 hp gain as bible. IMO, the hp gain is irrelavent, it is the output that makes it worth its' weight in gold. As far as it going out on you, the main reason lies with the circuit and is the reason you buy the relay kit for it when you buy one. Definitely a mod to have IMO.
