OP said he was concerned about "WOW" factor.

There is no other new car that will give you the same WOW factor than an 05-06 Mustang GT Under 35k right now.

If you really like GTO's than by all means go get it. But it is not considered HAWT by the general public.....which may be what you want.

I'm with everyone else, the Mustang just looks better. I don't even notice GTO's because they do look so much like every other car on the road. Yes, they have more power but they are heavier by a pretty good bit. Everyone compliments my Stang when they see it.

I was considering getting a GTO before I ordered my Mustang GT. The GTO is a sleeper, and I like the idea that it won't draw much attention and there aren't as many of them on the road. But it requires high octane gas, while the GT requires only 87 octane, and for the same price range of a used GTO you can get a new GT.

mixmasterbert: Ok I get there are a boatload of Stangs in D-town. But I took the approach that I modded the Stang to make it MY stang. That's the beauty of these cars. You can create whatever look you want. Plus there are great people on this site who will help you with ideas, suggestions, etc. I had one guy offer to sand my mirrors for me because I was having surgery and couldn't do it before it went to paint. Mustang owners are like family.

I can't believe the comments, thumbs up, and general WOW I've received on my car. But bottom line, buy what will make you happy. You're gonna be making the payments, not us.

I think after you drive that Mustang there will be no comparison. Even though they are both great performers, and even though the GTO comes on top, there is something about the Mustang that will get you hooked. Everything from the exterior, engine, interior, and the history behind the Mustang will be enough to make you wonder why you even considered buying the GTO.
