Switching Gears

Switching Gears
Hi. I just got a 06 Mustang GT.
The other day I was in 2nd gear and got it to 60mph.
Im not sure if I hit the red part on the RPMs.
How far is it safe to go into the red part of the odometer before I do engine damage on the car?
Im kinda worried about it. I dont sense anything wrong with it but my friends say I coulda messed it up by doing that.
Whats the max number RPM that I should go in a gear before i switch?
Another stupid question.. For everyday driving what rpm should I change gears on? like safe street driving.
I was wondering also for all of you people with stock 06 GTs what is the fastest you've gone in second gear?
Thanks for all the help. I just got this car and Ive only had one standard in my life and that was when I was 16. I want to make sure I have fun but do no damage to the car.
Again thank you for all your help people

RE: Switching Gears
You could hit redline without any problems, the car was built to do so from factory. I think the fuel cut off is around 6200-6300 but theres no need to rev it that high, not because of damage but because you wont be driving your car efficently. Your engine stops making horsepower after 5800 rpms (somewhere around there) so shift anytime after that (6000 would be just right I guess).
As for everyday driving, I shift at 2,000-2,500 rpms to get good gas mileage. Hope this answers your question.
Just know that it really is up to you, if you want to go a little faster, then shift at 3,000, if you wanna go faster then that, then shift at 4,000, just know that the higher you go, the faster you'll go but at the cost of gas mileage.
