Air Filter Questions.
Ok. Was wondering does a K&N Air filter add HP? If so how much?
Also does it void warranty?
I know cold air intake does.. (voids)and some kinda air kit does but does just a K&N air Filter?
I dont know much about this so I appreciate the help.
Thanks!

just replacing the box filter with a K&N will likely add nothing but a good reusable filter. From what i understand anything thats gonna add hp (air filter wize) needs a tune. So just replacing the box filter is likely a waist of 50 bucks. It wont void the warrant unless it directly causes a problem and the dealership can prove it was the cause.
Check out this link to 5.0 Stang & Super Fords which compares different CAIs including a K&N replacement air filter.

The K&N filter will help gain a little HP, but not much that you can tell a real difference. It doesn't void the warranty since its a replacement air filter so you shouldn't have to worry about that.
K&N air filters are less restrictive to air intake so the better the air flow the more efficient the engine will run thus increasing performance.
Just to give you an example, try breathing through a paper bag and then try breathing through a cotton shirt. You'll notice a difference right? Thats how a restrictive a paper air filter is compared to a K&N. I've used them in every vehicle I own, and owned, and they've always improved performance, especially MPG.
The cost of getting a K&N ($35 - $45) will benefit you in the long run since all you have to do is clean it every 50,000 to 100,000 miles depending on your driving environment.
A paper filter will cost anywhere between $7 to $15 depending on the brand. If you estimate the number of times you would replace a paper filter by the time your car gets to 50,000 to 100,000 miles, that could be at least 10 or more times, conservatively speaking. So, multiply 10 times $7 (cheapest filter) and you get $70. So which is the better value. The K&N? ($35 - $45 and reusable) or the restrictive paper filter?
