Default Notice difference 91 vs. 93 octane tune?

I retuned back to 91oct because of some slight detonation (pinging) durning hard acceleration on hot days. I hate thinking (real or imagined) that I've lost a few HP.

How much HP did I really lose? 2-3, 5, 10?

probably easiest to ask the the tuner you bought from for straight up numbers they produced and the difference they could get between the 91 and 93 tune. though every car is different it will give you an idea of relative number for horsepower loss. i wouldn't worry about it too much, if you can't feel a difference then don't let your mind get the best of ya. i'm working the other way, going from 87 to 91, when your at rock bottom there is only one way to go!

Did you try different brands of 93 octane? I had a similar problem, and switching to a different brand solved it. The best brands are normally Sunoco and Mobil.

I had my '95 5.0 GT timed right on the edge of pinging and Shell 93 was only gas I could run. I may put it back to 93 to make sure it wasn't just a bad tank. It was the first 100deg day I had driven it, so I figured it was just too hot out.

*hit I'm running a 87 tune on 93 octane and it runs great. You see I think its impossible to get a canned tune and expect to be perfect. Every car will vary, don't you think?

No kidding? [&:] Why would you waste money running 93 gas with an 87 tune? You are accomplishing nothing and yes it will run fine.

See if it pings at night when the temperature is cooler. If not, then it's due to the heat. If it still pings, then it may have been a bad tankful.

I put it back last night w/ no pinging but it was a cool night. I think if it starts again I will leave it at 93oct but retard the spark 2deg in the 4000-8000rpm range on the SCT.

are you a Pro Racer package user? timing has so many variables for the 05 & up S197 it's sick. not as simple as jut take 2 degrees out (unless you place it in the global spark adder) (but then it will take the timing out of lot of other areas)

Just the regular SCT2. I saw 3 ranges to change the spark in. IIRC, 0-2000, 2000-4000, 4000-8000rpms. The increments were +/- from zero (default/stock) in 2 degree increments in each range. My thought was that I could get it to knock off 2deg around 5Krpm which is where the pinging was.
