ORIGINAL: IEATSRT

Friend of mine just bought a 2000 vette, Z05 i believe but could be C5, i'm no vette expert. I think they came somewhere around 345 stock, 5.7 L displacement. He's a BIG guy, 300+ and i'm only about 160 being generous. He is also automatic vs my manual. I'm running the evo 91 tune, JLT CAI II, loudmouths and underdrive pulleys, he has a hypertech chip. I want to run him but before i do wanted to ask you guys how you think i'll do?? i'm guessing i'll lose but hopefully it will at least be close, right?!?! when it happens i'll let you guys know how it went down.
Here i'll speak on the Vettes....

There is no way its a z06 if it's
A. Automatic
B. A hatchback
C. Convertable

The Corvettes from 1997-2000 all have 345hp. In 2001 the bumped it to 350 and added more low end torque. But you dont have to worry about that now do you. If he has half a brain he will compensate for his fatness by runnin you with about 1/4 tank of gas. By doing this the Vette should be somewhere around 3150 pounds w/o him. So he still has the weight advantage. The automatic won't effect him because the 4L60E is a solid-quick shifting tranny. The only thing that could come in to play (considering your mods) is gearing. If he has the performance ratio forget about it. If he doesn't, its your race to lose. Even the base model Vettes are fast but certain things can effect their performance(Traction control on/off, performance ratios, even premium fuel changes things a bit). There are so many varibles either one of you could win.

He would smoke your car like you were going in reverse. I've had several Corvette with my last on e being a 2001 convertible 6 speed. The would kill A stock Mustang GT with no problem. They are lighter, have more HP, and are geared great so they can pull to 60 MPH in first (automatic & standard) that's a huge advantage for the C5. The C5 body style was nice back then but even with the redone C6 is still to " been there done that body styling for me" especially when you look at how good the 05 - 06 Mustang is it just great! ford has a great car - the S197 is the biggest hit in the automotive market in more than a decade. The new Mustang just restarted teh muscle car war all over again - you got to love it.

if you want to beat the C5 Vette's you can mod your stang up pretty easy and many different way to go about it. I put a Saleen supercharger on and a bunch of things to get me over the 500 HP mark. Those dang vettes can still jump me off the line but after about 5 seconds I pass them and all they see is my tail.

Owned one and driven both. Against the Vette, if driven properly, you're DOA... What is important in a street race is quickness and not necessarily what you would see through the traps at the end of 1/4 mile. A good reaction time is worth a lot...work on that... If you go top speed, be prepared...my 2000 6spd Mag Red bone stock Vette rolled out at 171 mph in 5th gear....consistently.

I have a had a few vettes and my wife currently has a 2005 GT so I have experience driving with both cars.

The 98 corvette I had was an automatic coupe with the performance gear ratio. Also had an air intake, corsa exhaust and the hyprtech power programmer. It would run 13.2 in the 1/4 with the stock runflat (runcrap) tires. Since the 2000 is 6 years old he has probaly replaced the Tires. If he has a better tire he may get a better start than the runflats and this would have a big impact on the race results.

As mentioned earlier the status if his driving and especially whether he undersatands how the different traction control options work will determine the race. If he stomps it with the traction control on it will slow him down so much the race is yours. If he has the TC turned off and stomps it he will smoke the runflats and the race is yours. If he knows how to drive he should win but there is enough room for error so you have a really good chance. Either way it would be a nice race so go out to the track and let us know how it goes.
