3.73's..how is that ration for our 5 speed?
AmericanMuscle4.6.......If you dont have a tuner yet......dont do anything else till you get one! If you are getting board with the power then the best bang for the buck is the tuner/cold air intake combo. I dont think anyone here will disagree.
I use 3.55's in my Procharged 01, and wouldn't go any shorter. I much prefer the 'balance' of 3.55's for freeway driving and smoother daily driving. I could probably live with 3.73's, but I wouldn't ever add 4.10's.

im getting the install FREE BITCH, i know the guy who owns the dealership (lives right across the street, got me tints for free already lol) so im gonna lie a bit and tell the 'rents the whole thing costs only like 200 bucks when in reality im gonna be dishin out $720, plus royal purple synthetics, make it a round 800 bucks. then, when i have to get new tires, ill slip on some BF Goodrich 275 DR's.
YEEEEEEEEEYA. im slick man. but i gotta work 50-55 hours a week now to finish payin off the car, the rest of the time ill be on MF. LOL.
with this setup, could i take a bone stock 3.42 geared LS1 manual?

I can't speak about the Motive gears being noisy but I can say the FFRP are NOT the only quiet ones made as far as 4.10 ratio goes. I have Pro Racing 5.0 gears installed and they are just like original equipment except when going off throttle at low speeds there is a slight whirring sound but not objectionable by any means. My dynotuner told me to expect it with 4.10 gears regardless of manufacturer. I used Royal Purple 75 W 140 and didn't add the special gear lubricant from Ford. I think if I added that into the rear end the slight noise I do hear when off the gas decelerating will probably disappear. For those people thinking of going 3.73 versus 4.10 I don't understand why nobody ever talks about considering a 3.90? I think it is a great comprimise especially for those that plan on going the N/A route in the future. Any comments?

One thing about a 3.90 gear for the strip is it often allows a 4rth gear finish. Often times, 4.10 gears will require a power adder car to make a 4 to 5 shift before the car reaches 1320 feet. -Which can hurt your 1/4 time slightly.

I thought the same thing, so I went with cheaper Motive gears, and had a highly respected race shop set them up for me. They whine. [sm=headbang.gif] It's my understanding that some of the other gears are back cut differently, and don't whine.

guys, thanks for all the feedback. i'll run the 3.73's for now and see how i like them, i will be getting a SC put in within months as well, if i dont like them i can always switch to 4.10's
btw, any of you have an xbox 360 and play on LIVE?

I didn't even know they offer a 3.90
That might be the way to go.
But again, I think 3.73's would do best for me.
And, actually, I don't know how the math would work out, but
I'm thinking of running 255/45/18's which are .14 inches shorter than
the stock 17" MGT wheels/tires.
It's small, but that will also shorten the final drive.
Again, don't know the math but it might be equivalent to 3.80+

Come on guys, let's give FACTS not opinions.
Fact 1: The 4.10's are fine for highway driving. Average rpm at 80 mph is 3100 - 70 mph is 2800 rpm
Fact 2: Traction? Come on, if you try on the street with your stock gears, you will spin - the 4.10's are easily controllable
Fact 3: The difference in your low end power will be greatly noticed with 4.10's over 3.73's
Fact 4: I had more power with my street tune than any of you and I didn't lose 1st gear with over 500 rwhp so why should you?
Fact 5: I personally like the 4.30's for manual...
(yes, I also think they are overkill for street but like them anyway)
Fact 6: Try to drive a car with 4.10's and 1 with 3.73's so you can feel the difference for yourself.
Fact 7: Gears are cheap so you could always try both if you don't have access to check them out on friends' cars
Fact 8: Lastly - make sure you get the FRRP cause the motives suck. (noisy)
Hope this helps,
Mark
