Only 3100 rpm at 80?? You're not in a honda civic 4-banger. Thats a lot of rpm. Doesn't a normal stang run about 2200 at 80?

Come on guys, let's give FACTS not opinions.
Fact 1: The 4.10's are fine for highway driving. Average rpm at 80 mph is 3100 - 70 mph is 2800 rpm
Fact 2: Traction? Come on, if you try on the street with your stock gears, you will spin - the 4.10's are easily controllable
Fact 3: The difference in your low end power will be greatly noticed with 4.10's over 3.73's
Fact 4: I had more power with my street tune than any of you and I didn't lose 1st gear with over 500 rwhp so why should you?
Fact 5: I personally like the 4.30's for manual... (yes, I also think they are overkill for street but like them anyway)
Fact 6: Try to drive a car with 4.10's and 1 with 3.73's so you can feel the difference for yourself.
Fact 7: Gears are cheap so you could always try both if you don't have access to check them out on friends' cars
Fact 8: Lastly - make sure you get the FRRP cause the motives suck. (noisy)
Hope this helps,
Mark

I have 4:10's in my 05' 5spd and love them, actually would consider going to 4:30's if I had to do it over again! 90% of my driving is at 65mph or less but I didn't loose ANY gas mileage and I still use 1st gear all the time. I would gear your car for what you use it for 90% of the time, 75 plus mph use 3:73's, but if you mostly stay under 70, definetly use the 4:10's. The way I looked at it was I wanted it to be noticably faster since i'm spending money on these and didn"t want to be dissapointed afterwards, yet not loose much fuel economy. Thus I figured if I didn't like the loss of mpg, I can always drive a little closer to the speed limits, thats easier than going back in to replace the gears again and can save you money in two ways!

RE: 3.73's..how is that ration for our 5 speed?
Birdieman's post really got me thinking. I am so quick to advocate the 4.10's or 4.30's cause they work for MY set-up. I sometimes lose sight that there is other set-ups out there...lol (many)
So let me be more helpfl to ALL set-ups...
The guy that posted that gears should be a mod after you've got your engine/power mods done is right on. Once you've got your power down, then you will be able to get the gears that are going to be optimal for your set-up. Because there are so many variables, no single gear is better than the other. Your set-up is what is going to determine what gear is optimal for you. Thanks Birdie for bringing things into perspective.

AmericanMuscle4.6.......If you dont have a tuner yet......dont do anything else till you get one! If you are getting board with the power then the best bang for the buck is the tuner/cold air intake combo. I dont think anyone here will disagree.

On topic, I've got 3.73s and I think they're just fine. I plan on getting a Whipple in the future, so I didn't see a need for 4.10s. Plus, on the rare occasions that I take her out, it's mostly highway driving at 70+ MPH. I think the 4.10s would start to annoy me after a while with the higher RPM. Take the $700 you'd spend on the tuner and intake and put it toward 3.73s and some tubular subframe connectors. You won't regret it! Second gear is a hoot now! And she handles like she's riding on Velcro. (Not to mention it quieted that super annoying dash rattle considerably.) The biggest downside is that my speedometer is way off with the addition of the gears and wheels. I really hate that!

is there any way to get just the 4.10 gears and have it speed calibrated without having dish out another 500 bucks on a tuner? i just want the gears. i found ford racing ones for 186 bucks, getting free install, dont wanna dump any more money into it, parentals will start catching on. how much will the speedo be off?

I will. You're spending near $700 just for 20 or so HP.

Back off topic,
First, a tuner and CAI, you can get a damn good combo for closer to $600, But lets just say I went with the top of the line super ultra one for $800. Not only would I be getting 20 hp, RWHP by the way, but Id be getting a handheld tuner for my cars chip that I can change and ajust all day and night, and will turn out to be especially valuable for future upgrades...sky's the limit. Gears would be my next upgrade and It definately will come in handy with 4.10's. Unfortunately not everyone had asperations to add FORCED AIR to more than likely void the warranty, For those people, such as myself, CAI combos more than fit the bill.
